World Tiger Day

29 July 2024

Happy World Tiger Day from Yana – Longleat’s mother of four rare Amur cubs.

The quadruplets were born in May on the Wiltshire estate and are thriving with keepers hoping they will make an appearance in the Safari Park before the end of the school summer holidays; they need to fully covered from vaccinations to protect them when they go outside.

Longleat has the biggest collection of Amur tigers in the UK. The species is currently listed as endangered and the Longleat cubs equate to more than 25 per cent of births across Europe in the previous two years. It is estimated that there are only 450 Amur tigers remaining in the wild.

World – or International – Tiger Day is aimed at raising awareness on the endangered big cat and conservation is at the heart of Longleat with the team working with the European breeding programme to support the continuation of the species.
