Shearwater Cabin is open!
17 July 2025

The café at Shearwater Lake has been officially reopened by Lord Bath, marking its transformation into Shearwater Cabin.
Lord Bath was joined by the new dedicated café team, pupils from local Crockerton Primary School and Longleat employees to mark the opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
The café, situated on the Longleat estate in Wiltshire, has undergone refurbishment, alongside essential reservoir safety work. Longleat made a commitment to refurbish and reopen the cafe when previous tenants did not renew their lease.
Lord Bath said “I am delighted to open Shearwater Cabin at this beautiful location.”
Shearwater Cabin will open Wednesday to Sunday from 9am to 5pm.
Paul Jackson, Senior Operations Manager at Longleat, said “We know the café is popular with walkers – with and without dogs – so we wanted to ensure there was the option to grab on the go snacks and drinks, as well as leisure day essentials.
“With summer here and the school holidays around the corner, we also wanted to create a welcoming spot for visitors to relax and take in the scenery, as well as refreshments.”
Longleat members can utilise their discount benefits at Shearwater Cabin, which further enhances the benefits of membership.
Shearwater Lake was created by the 1st Marquess of Bath in the 1790s, with later additions by the famous landscape gardener Humphry Repton.
The lake is classified under the Reservoir Act 1975 as a Category 1 Reservoir and the repair work was undertaken to meet statutory safety requirements.
