Arctictis binturong

Bearcat buddies

Despite being called "bearcats," they're not related to bears or cats at all! Our binturongs Adana and Baloo love climbing with their special prehensile tails. You can normally find Baloo high up in the treetops enjoying whatever weather comes his way. Look out for them on your next visit to Jungle Kingdom.

Smell you later

Binturongs have a secret weapon that would make any cinema jealous, they smell exactly like buttered popcorn! This isn't just for show though. As our binturongs move through the trees, they release this distinctive scent from special glands to mark their territory and attract potential mates.

Did you know?

Female binturongs can control when their babies are born, allowing them to time births with the best environmental conditions.
