Giant otters first made their home at Longleat in 2019, alongside koalas and crocodiles in our Animal Adventure expansion project. Arriving to Longleat marked the reunion of Inny and Gordito, a breeding couple who had spent many successful years together in another collection, but had spent over a year separated. Since their reunion they are rarely seen apart. Swimming, exploring, eating and snuggling together.
Giant otters have evolved interesting aquatic adaptations: webbed feet, water repellent fur and fully sealable ears and nostrils. Other aquatic mammals, like hippos and platypus, also have important water adaptations — not forgetting that whales are also mammals!
