A Californian sea lion swimming in Half Mile Pond barking

Sea lion shenanigans

Californian sea lions have been a beloved part of the park since 1968, and our current raft of eight playful marine mammals love nothing more than racing alongside the Jungle Cruise around Half Mile Pond.

You'll hear their distinctive barks echoing across the water long before you spot them during your Boat Safari adventure. For a small additional fee, you can even feed these vocal show-offs and get up close with their cheeky personalities.

Cooling off in style

When the heat gets too much, our sea lions have some clever tricks. You might spot them lounging with a flipper in the water or flipping sand over their backs. It's their way of staying cool without committing to a full swim!

Did you know?

Sea lions use their front flippers to swim and have visible ears, unlike seals who only have ear holes.
