Red Necked Wallaby

Macropus rufogriseus

Our bouncing bunch

We have a thriving mob of red-necked wallabies that have delighted visitors for years. Our experienced mum, Lara, has raised many joeys, with the latest arriving in early 2025. These Australian natives have adapted well to life at Longleat, and you can spot them in Family Farmyard.

More than just hopping

While wallabies are famous for their impressive hopping abilities, these marsupials are surprisingly versatile movers! They can crawl and are actually quite skilled swimmers, making them far more athletic than most people realise.

Did you know?

Red necked wallabies have excellent hearing and smell, with large ears that can rotate 180 degrees independently.
