Reindeer magic

From the frozen Arctic to the rolling Wiltshire hills, our wonderful herd of reindeer, including the charming Reuben, Comet and Prancer, have made Longleat their home. These remarkable animals bring a touch of winter wonderland all year round. You may be lucky enough to see our festive friends in their paddock as you walk The Festival of Light lantern trail.

Antler advantage

Here's something special about reindeer, they're the only deer species where females grow antlers too! Out of over 40 deer species worldwide, female reindeer are unique in sporting their own impressive headgear. While males shed theirs in late autumn and regrow fresh sets each spring, the females keep their antlers throughout the winter months to fiercely guard precious food sources when resources run scarce.

Did you know?

Rudolph was right! Reindeer noses really do go red thanks to tiny blood vessels that warm freezing air down to -40°C - nature's built-in heater!
