Giraffes were first brought to Longleat in 1968. Back then, visitors could walk among, and even picnic alongside, the gentle giants in the East African Reserve. Since then, the group has flourished, raising well over 100 multi-generational calves as part of an international breeding programme.
Despite their colossal length, giraffes have the same number of neck bones as we do – only seven.
