Important information

The property's history

Prairie Lodge is a Grade II listed stone cottage near the summit of Park Hill, the highest point of Longleat Park. It dates back to the late 17th century and initially served as a farmhouse for workers tending the corn farm on Park Hill, supplying cereal crops that fed the household at Longleat as well as the horses, dogs, pigs, poultry and game birds kept there.

By the 1870s the cottage was no longer used as a traditional farmhouse, housing a succession of Longleat gamekeepers until 1940. Since this time, it has been home to a variety of others connected to the estate, including a staff member from the RAF depot in the Longleat woods at Crabtree, a furniture conservator employed by Longleat House, and a park ranger.
